How to Make Home-Made Chicken Stock

Fall means colder weather and signals a time for snuggling up and eating warm delicious meals. Soups and noodle bowls are specially delicious during colder weather but they usually all have something in common. They need stock either chicken, beef or vegetable are the most common. but instead of running to the store to buy some why not try making some yourself. You would be surprised at how easy and inexpensive it can be.


  • Chicken bones
  • Water
  • Carrots (if making a rue)
  • Celery (if making a rue)
  • Garlic (optional)
  • Thyme (optional)
  • Salt (optional)
  • Pepper (optional)
  • Garlic (optional)


If you want more flavor you can first create a mirepoix, which i highly recommend for getting a rich a delicious base for your broth. Otherwise, first add leftover chicken to the pot and fill the bowl with water just a bit over the bones. Let water come to a boil then reduce it down to simmer. Now add in seasonings. Let simmer for one hour, you can simmer longer if you would like a more concentrated flavor but remember you will end up with less liquid. Strain the liquid into a container to either keep for your next meal or straight into another bowl to create something delicious like chicken noodle soup. Add more seasoning if needed until you have your desired taste.

And it is that easy to make a delicious chicken stock to make a vegetable just use the scraps of fragrant veggies such as: onions carrots, celery, tomatoes, parsnips and mushrooms.
